Texas Hold'em uses a small disk called a "Button" to indicate the player who, in theory would deal the cards for that hand. This player is last to get dealt to with the player immediately to their left getting cards first. The "Dealer" is also last to act on all rounds of betting except for the first round.
The first round of betting employs blind bets, for the first two players immediately to the dealers left, this is done to stimulate betting and insure there is money in each pot of play. The blinds are posted before each player gets his/her cards. The player to the left of the second blind bet starts the betting in the first round while each subsequent round it is started by the first player to post the blind bet (first player to the dealers left).
Every player will receive two cards followed by a round of betting.
Next to come, the "Flop" this is three cards that are turned in the middle of the table that are community cards for each of the remaining players. After this is done another round of betting takes place.
The "Turn" is the next card to be turned face up in the middle of the table this is another community card that all players can use, after this card is exposed there is another round of betting.
Finally "5th Street" this is one last card that is turned face up on the table for the remaining players to use in there hand. Again there is another round of betting after this card is exposed.
The object of the game is to make the best 5-card poker hand using any combination of cards in your hand combined with the 5-community cards. |
