Bet: Placing a wager in turn, i.e. putting money in the pot.
Big Blind: The larger of two "Blind" bets that are placed before any player receives their cards, this helps to ensure action on every hand.

Blinds: These are bets made before cards are dealt.
Bluff: A bet made to seemingly make your opponent think you have a strong hand when in fact you are weak.
Board: The five face up community cards on the table in Texas Hold'em.
Bounty: A prize or award a player might get for eliminating a specific player or group of players from a tournament.
Bully: A player who frequently raises pots.
Burn Card: This is the act of burning or discarding the top card on the deck before each betting round. It is done for security and to ensure no player would recognize the next card to come off the deck.
Button: This is the player who is the designated dealer for that hand. This rotates each hand clockwise.
Call: Placing the same amount of chips in the pot as the previous bettor.
Check: To pass on betting but you will get the option to call or re-raise if another player chooses to bet.
Check-Raise: This is the practice of checking with the intention of raising another opponents bet, often done with a very strong hand and with a weak hand to appear strong.
Community Cards: These are the five cards that each player can use on the table in Texas Hold'em.
Deal: The act of giving each player the cards they will use in the hand and also placing the community cards on the table.
Draw: When the hand you have can improve with another card.
Driver's Seat: The player who seemingly holds an advantage in the hand. This is Chippy's favorite spot.
Early Position: Having to be one of the first players to act on their hand, in Texas Hold'em this is a great disadvantage.
Flop: These are the first three "Community" cards dealt face up.
Fold: To surrender your hand, at this point you cannot win the pot but you also will not lose any more of your chips.
Kicker: The high card in your hand that is not used to make your hand. This card is used to break ties between players.
Late Position: Being one of the last players to act on your hand, in Texas Hold'em this is a great advantage.
Lay Down: To fold a seemingly strong hand in a crucial situation. Also not something Chippy does on command.
Little Blind: The smaller of two forced bets prior to players receiving their cards. (See Big Blind).
Loose: A player who will seemingly play many pots with any two cards, also called a maniac.
Mechanic: A dealer who cheats by manipulating the cards and the order they are dealt.

Open-Ended Straight Draw: Four cards in a row that the next card on either side of it will complete a straight for the player such as, 3,4,5,6, with this hand either a 2 or a 7 will complete the straight. Always be careful when you make the low end of the straight as this is also called the "Dumb" end.
Option: This occurs when no-one has raised the "Big Blind" and the betting gets back around to this player, they then have the option of raising or checking before the flop is dealt.
Outs: The number of cards left in the deck that will improve your hand.
Overpair: Having paired cards in your hand that are higher than anything on the board.
Pocket Cards: These are the cards that are exclusive to you and no-one lese can see them.
Rabbit Hunting: The act of playing the hand out after a winner is already determined to see if the outcome would have been different. Chippy does not allow this as it slows the game down!
Rag: A card that appears to have no impact on the play of the hand.
Rainbow: A flop that contains cards of three different suits, therefore eliminating any flush possibilities at that point of the hand.
Raise: The act of adding more to a bet already made by another player, this needs to be at least double what they bet. If the player bets 100 you must raise to at least 200.
Re-Raise: This occurs after one player has already raised a bet from another player and you then add on to that bet when it is your turn to bet.
River: The fifth and final community card placed on the board in Texas Hold'em. Chippy says, "Dreams are Made and Broken at the river".
Rock: A player who plays a very straight forward and conservative game.
Semi-Bluff: Betting on your hand even though you may have not completed it yet. Also see draw.
Short Stack: A player who has few chips remaining in comparison to others at the table. Also one of Chippy's favorite things for breakfast.
Showdown: The act of turning ones cards over after the final round of betting and determining a winner.
SidePot: This occurs when one or more players at the table are ALL-IN.
Slowplay: Also called Sandbag, this is to play a very strong hand as though it were weak, by doing this your opponents may try and make a bet to steal the pot therefore enabling you to win extra bets from them, the downfall to this strategy is they may also catch up to you and make a stronger hand. Chippy never recommends slowplaying a hand.
Small Blind: See Little Blind.
Splash the Pot: The act of throwing your chips in the pot recklessly instead of placing them in the pot neatly stacked. Chippy does not tolerate "Splashing the Pot".
Steal: To act strong when it seems others have nothing, see bluffing also.
Suited Connectors: Consecutive cards of the same suit in your hand. Example 7-8 of hearts are suited connectors. These can be powerful hands when played properly but also can be troublesome to play. Chippy says leave these to the experienced player to play.
Tell: Something a player does with either with body language or verbal declarations that help you determine the strength of the hand they hold.
Tight Player: See Rock.
Tilt: A player who for some reason starts to play reckless and with emotion, instead of using strategy to guide them. This usually occurs after a bad beat.
Time: A player may ask for "Time" when contemplating a big decision. Chippy will limit this to 30 seconds.
Toke: Same as a tip, usually given to dealers or Tournament Director by the winners.
Top Pair: Matching the highest card on the flop with one of you hole cards.
Trap: To get a player to play his or her hand as if it were strong when it has almost no chance of winning.
